I think that might just be the shadows causing that effect.

The bridge was built for two tracks but they only installed one.    The line goes to multiple stations so I dont know if that would still count as a branch line.

No. A branch line is basically a dead-end, where the train has to return on the same track.

Super colours, the Marks Tey to Sudbury line? I'd be tempted to travel on that just for the journey..It's a great image.

Just the pitches and a little park area from memory. Did you try the Swan? A place to revisit in the summer for sure.

There was also a path that went off parallel to the railway line but we didnt explore that as someone has blisters.

Didnt try the pub,  were still avoiding places like that.
We parked on the gravel prking area that leads down to the park entrance.

There are few branch lines near here. They used to go further, but suffered Beeching's Axe.  But that led to the creation of walking trails along the remaining route when the rails were lifted.

The railway into Maldon was the same,  when it was axed it became a walking trail.

Im sure thats a nice walk there and back,  and usually those old lines are fairly flat.
