The major reason I decided NOT to sell my old good Mavic 2 Pro is simple.
Sunsets around here last around 17 minutes.
Sometimes more, sometimes less, but 17 minutes is a good year-round average at this latitude (Los Angeles, CA, US).
FWIW the same goes for the entire American Southwest, I guess, plus/minus a few minutes.
For the longest time, I was torn between two things: take a good timelapse or take a set of good panos.
Then it dawned on me: why can't I take both? Use Mavic 2 for timelapses, and use Mavic 3 for panos.
I can totally start a hyperlapse with M2P and set it for ~ 20 min.
Once this is done, I can simply let it take its course and concentrate on M3C and panos.
Then just land them both and be done with it.
Today was my first attempt at such an approach.
I had encountered a few hurdles, since I haven't flown M2P like in 6 months, and M3 was also acting up (that would be a separate post), so the resulting set of content was a bit smaller than I hoped for. But the concept played out, I just need to be prepared better, this one was kinda rushed.
Anyway, here's tonight's outing.
180 Pano (M3C, hanging at 30 ft, still waiting for the satellites to lock the HP)
Tele pano (also M3C, manual assembly)
And, last but not least, a 30+ sec clip made from both M2P hyperlapse and M3C still images.

Beautiful skies!!! Sounds like it would be a challenge at the same time it came out great! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! yeah, it was an interesting experience, between M2P wanting to land on somebody's roof 100 yards away from HP because it was running out of juice and refusing to listen to controller commands (first time ever) and M3C getting stuck in pano mode, all at the same time ;)
Thank you. I was actually planning to take this from a different spot, but then decided to operate from the safety of my own driveway, especially considering that was my first attempt at two-drone flight.

Didn't read the first part of your post before now. Cool idea!

This morning would have been a possible repeat of Fiery Dawn, but I was too late out of bed this time
I hear you man! Sunrise are difficult in that aspect. Waking up in the dark, can’t see anything, just have to hope for the best. And even with technology help, like checking the weather radar, if you perform that much mental activity only to decided there is nothing, it’s difficult to go back to sleep.

I was always an early riser, but with advancing years the attractions of a lie-in cannot be denied

Thank you! You’re too kind.
And this was the sunset that SkyCandy gave 14% chance of happening ;)
For me if skycandy doesn’t give false positives then it’s a win. Due to EU rules and bad neighbours I can’t really fly from my yard so I’d need to travel for a sunrise/sunset shot so a good forecast would mean the world to me. I started a log of skycandy and Alpen and so far they are not disappointing for me. But more time is really needed.

it's also possible that these apps might work better in some regions and less so in others.
