Książ (Fürstenstein ) is the third largest (after Malbork and Wawel) castle complex in Poland. The residence is located in Lower Silesia, on a picturesque hill (395 meters above sea level) in the bend of the Pełcznica River on the route connecting Wałbrzych with Świebodzice (administratively, the property is part of the city of Wałbrzych). The history of the castle dates back to the second half of the 13th century, when the first stone defensive fortress was erected here by order of the prince of Świdnica and Jawor, Bolek I. Soon after, it became an important link in the chain of border strongholds, which also included such castles as, among others, Cisy, Nowy Dwór, Grodno, Radosno or Rogowiec.
