Does DJI or anyone else have any definitive information on what is the best maintenance policy for storing batteries that have run below 40%, but won't be used for a while?

I understand that batteries should be stored at charge values between 40% and 60%, and that if left to sit fully charged for a programmable number of days they will discharge themselves down to 60%.

All this works fine.

My question is, after a flight where the charge value on both batteries ends up below 40%, and you plan to store them for several days minimum, is it best to charge them to 100% and leave them to self discharge, or just charge them to 40% to be above the minimum storage level?

Any suggestions appreciated

I wonder why it's recommended tos tore the batteries in the charging station. I store those in ammo boxes, batteries with that amount of energy could be very dangerous if not contained. Also the charging case should be left open as it doesn't allow heat dissipation.
