Montys Lookout......


After scouring some maps the other day I notcied that this place is called Monty's Lookout and couldnt resist going back and caputuring it for @Montfrooij aka Monty.

I think its pointing in the wrong direction.   But it was another windy day, you can see the ripples on the water.

Beautiful place and shot - I see no trains though...

You could probably see the train line from there,  but its more popular to spot Oyster Catches from there than trains.

Theres a 197ft altitude limit because its on the airport approach,  which is odd as behind the hut is a model airplane club and they fly much higher than 197ft.

The OTHER Monty (Montgommery)  had a lookout in Normandy during WW2.  The Chateau de Creuilly.  He stayed in a villa just north of the Chateau.  For a while, during the war, the BBC broadcast from the attic of the Chateau.  We visited in 2013 when local radiohams re-activated the radio station from there.

I don't get it.

Not even a railway in sight.

Or maybe on the first image in the distance.

But I don't get why they would name that 'Monty'

I can quite imagine he was using that setup for the resistance fighters.

The support from the local community and the generous legacy of Anthony Cooper otherwise known as ‘Monty’ enabled the Trust to replace both the structure and interpretation. When you visit the lookout, you will see it has been named after Monty, he was a local man and a very good friend of the Trust who spent many hours of his life volunteering at our Two Tree Island nature reserve while his health permitted. He loved the natural world and above all, birdlife.”
