Ive been looking for some really old (100+ year old) cook books and this has been very useful for that.

Not unusual to put down 2 rods per fisherman.  Gets dicey when you get a hit on both rods at the same time.

It is, but at time he/she may be working a fish on their own rod.  I remember a couple of times when there were 3 of us and we had 6 rods in the water and had 4 almost instantaneous hits.  That was quite exciting.  Good thing we had clips on the heavy reels to keep them attached to the holders so we could alternate working the 4 rods.

Yes I can imagine,   Years ago I went sea fishing on a boat,   no one caught anything,   at the end of the day  we were bring the lines in to pack up and go back to land when I realed mine in to find a reasonable size cod attached,    He managed to get hooked without any drama and just hung out.
