Judging by the number of picnic tables behind, it must have been some kind of recreational activity. And the open frontage would lend itself to golf practice or skeet shooting perhaps. But you've ruled those out.
Grandstand for horse racing or trotting, perhaps?

Close with the golf,   there once was a cafe attached to the oherside but I hear the floor collapsed which partly triggered the work being done.

Yes,  we can fly here at night as long as we have the right lights,   so not with the Mini2, but with the M2P its fine,  assuming all other rules are complied with.

The only other thing I could think of was football, after you'd ruled out golf
