There's been a variety of answers provided to the question of this thread "What if dji find its hardware", from the consumer (us) perspective. I'm going to flip it and answer from the DJI perspective. Some in this thread (and elsewhere) have argued that it is a forgone conclusion that DJI has determined the issue to be hardware, that they have unlimited resources and have had plenty of time to resolve a software issue, therefore the issue must be hardware. There are numerous flaws in the premise that I won't go into here, I'll just state that in my opinion this is in fact not a forgone conclusion.
If DJI determines it is hardware, DJI will continue to explore and exhaust software solutions to this hardware problem. When DJI determines that they have exhausted their software solution efforts, they will explore their hardware based options. At this point it's anyone's guess, but some obvious ones that jump out are: Recall, or offer a discount for future product.
easy for dji to avoid a class action lawsuit, just come clean with the public. you don't have to tell "everything" or name names or play the blame game but you have to make a suitable response. at that point, it will be determined if the effort is genuine and no further action necessary. i agree, only the culpable need to be punished. when apple responded by giving unbelievable answers and a lame solution, they got the hammer. a private company doesn't have to be fully transparent like a government organization but they have to at least show good faith. you don't have to admit you screwed up but you do have to show that you are "doing the right thing" when it comes to dealing with the public....whatever that is. with the action camera, dji came out with a statement, offered a solution....boom, settled. they can do the same here to mitigate the damage that is already done which imho, i believe has already risen to class status when you look at everything in totality....unfortunately.
i don't know if its hardware, or software, or a combination of both....or maybe neither. but don't you think we deserve to know? again, unless there is a safety issue, i would advise dji not to issue a recall; i wouldn't. you don't try to disguise technical incompetence by issuing a recall. a recall is reserved for getting products off that street that pose an immediate hazard to the public. when the public sees a recall, it's a call to action. imagine if there were thousands and thousands of recalls from all sorts of manufacturers who screwed up from buggy products. issue a technical bulletin or publish some sort of warning or notice. when you issue a recall, people are not supposed to use the product, sell it, or do anything others than get it fixed....now. or, stop using it....now.
my advice to dji is trying sw update one more time. release notes would indicate further optimization or further enhancement to gps locking algorithm, etc. even if there is some hw involvement, they can do their best to improve it using software, that is evident. |
