Had a couple of storms come off the Gulf of Mexico recently bringing not only lots of rain but heavy lightning also.

I don't mind the rain and thunder but the bolts of lightning tend to rile me up a bit, especially living on a boat on the water.

I saw a lightning bolt strike the antenna on a cruiser just off the port side of the aircraft carrier I was on.  Caused lots of damage but fortunately nobody was hurt.  Years later I saw a lightning bolt strike a pontoon boat anchored in a lake in Wisconsin.  Unfortunately, the boat caught fire and sank.

I took the IR camera and the mini2 out looking for some yellow fields only to find the lens had failed on me.  The aperture ring cable has snapped.  I currently have it and the replacement part in a thousand pieces on the bench,   wish me luck putting it back together.

Its common here to take them out for the winter for maintenance and to clean the hull and re apply anti-fouling.

Wow,   I would have thought there would have been something to conduct that into the sea.

There is only so much that you can do, especially when the entire ship is steel.

And not just the boaters,   theres quite a lot of small industrial units. (like paint booths for cars) that use diesel heaters to heat the building which used to buy red diesel,  so expect things like that to go up in cost soon.
