thanks DT,  so far not bad,   Its dry,  had some nice walks and flown a coupe of batteries.  Later will be lots of grass cutting I think.

Sounds like you had a very nice day.  I was able to get in one dive on a man made coral reef.  Quite a lot of sea life in and around that reef now.

This particular reef was an old railroad passenger car.  It was sunk back in 1998.

They built several reefs in the NY area with 13 railroad passenger cars.  Also, a few rail cars were used just off Charleston, SC.  

Nice capture!

They must have to spend a tremendous amount of time cleaning them before they can be used,   trains tend to get really dirty,  well at least here and NY.

Im sure,   but the work to clean them must have been massive.

I couldn't find the article in the archives but if memory hasn't failed me it took months of stripping down items that were not allowed to remain onboard and then they had to pressure wash off any paint, etc. from both the inside and outside.  All done at taxpayer's expense, of course.

Seems like it would have been much cheaper to use an alternative material for the reef but I guess they needed to get rid of the old rail cars one way or the other.  

One of these days I'd like to dive on those cars and see how they have progressed as a man made reef over the years.
