This last weekend, I got pretty bored and had some extra wood laying around the shop. So I built a landing pad. It has adjustable feet, a handle on one side, and I've ordered a couple bubble levels to put on 2 of the sides.
I estimate the total cost minus labor to be around $32 USD. (I paid $17 on Amazon for a folding landing pad last year.)

Looks pretty robust, but how convenient is it to carry into the field?  What does it weigh?

Yeah, it is a little more sturdy than I originally thought but I just used what I had laying around.

The handle actually makes it not too bad to carry around and it fits alright into the back seat of the car or the back of the truck. I mainly had the idea because it's not too easy to find a level spot in my yard. This makes it so I can have a good, flat, level spot anywhere.

It weighs 11 pounds.

Yeah, mostly because my yard has maybe 2 or 3 level spots... all in the driveway about 5 feet from the house.

Ouf!  A bit too heavy for backpacking expeditions, but obviously great for when you're out in the car.

Yeah, it's also a 2 foot square. So I'm not sure where you'd carry it on a backpacking trip.

Still and all, a worthwhile project

An idea!  Why not make it into a box, add some inserts and it becomes a storage/carry case for the drone.  Just a thought, looks a decent job.

My wife suggested sawing it in half and putting hinges on it to make it like a suitcase.
