I got a really late start on viewing the forum today.  I got called in for jury duty.  However, once they found out I was a retired lawyer they quickly dismissed me.

  The only time I got called for Jury duty was just after we were married - so, many years ago.
Mundane stuff really - nothing heavy like murder.

Jury duty is important regardless of the seriousness of the case being tried.  So you are to be congratulated on doing your civic duty.

Ahh, I seem to remember something to the effect that UK Judges wore the black scarf or hat in criminal cases where the passing of the death sentence may have been warranted.  

I just found out, via google, that it went away with the death penalty in 1998.  Although it appears many judges still wear a black scarf or hat.

Yes the removal of the death penalty as a deterrent has not helped the level of criminality here. Best not to dwell on that topic.

Here are a few major issues concerning the death penalty.

1 – Cost of capital punishment
2 – Execution methods
3 – Intellectual Limitations
4 – Race and Gender
5 – Power of Prosecutors
6 – Effective Defense Counsel

Bringing up any of these always creates intensive debate.  Had some great professors in law school that covered these quite well.

It's an underground water reservoir. The are a number of those around the area.  I think it dates back to the war years when such things were a target.
