What do people think of the DJI Filter pack comprising ND16, 64 and 256? I live in the UK and would have thought ND8, 16 and 32 would be a better set...

Hi,
As I live in Sweden, we have about the same type of climate. I am just about to get some DJI filters myself and have done some research on this, as well as looking what people has said here in the forums, as well as what the company here called Swedrone suggest from their web site. It looks like for our type of climate, ND 8, 16 and 32 would be sufficient. In extreme cases with sunlight N64 could also be used. From what people has said here on the forums when searching using the words ND FiLTER I get that ND32 would be the most use filter.

I got some with my Mavic Air 2 bundle but decided to buy the all day pack from Freewell, because they are much better.
Hopefully they will be available soon for Mini 3 Pro.

8, 16, 32, is the right set to get. I think you will find that ND 16 is the one you will mainly use. I also agree with My Sky Freewell make exceptional filters.

Thanks hallmark. That would save me one filter. Also thanks for mentioning the Frewells name My Sky. Will definitely look for these  3. I have no experience of these filters yet, but still learning.
Cheers

I'm holding off until Freewell releases their ND filter packs.  I've used them on all my drones.  they are really well made and always fit properly.

Same here and also on my DJI Pocket and Gopro 9.
And as already stated, 8,16 and 32 is best for most conditions, so the all day pack from Freewell has the best value.

You need to realize that the f-stop on this camera is f1.7 so you are going to need a stronger filter to bring that shutter speed down.

Hello there JerryLaurence. Good day and thank you for reaching out. I hope that our fellow DJI co pilots can share there valued insights with regards to this matter. In addition the DJI Mini 3 Pro ND Filters Set ( ND 16/64/256 ) meets needs in scenarios of shooting long exposure or against strong light, e.g. long exposure Timelapse. Thank you.

I think there are many of us who are not interested in long exposure or timelapse. For me, a set of ND8, 16 and 32 will be much more useful.

Its about 1 to 1 1/2 stops difference depending on which size sensor you’re coming from. But at this size I think 8/16/32  are more than enough unless you live in the desert .

Hi, I have the Mavic 3 and only need 8, 16 & 32; but on the odd occasion a 64 might have been useful. I live in the Scottish Highlands. I’m due delivery of my mini 3 pro early June; I also consider an 8,16,32 to be sufficient ND value. I suspect the 265 perhaps might be necessary for long exposure photography? But doubt it / I’m a photographer and even in long exposure using my Nikon camera, I’ve never needed more than a 10 - 16 stop!

Hi,
Yes, I agree with you and I just ordered the ND 8, 16 and 32 from Freewell, so I think that would be enough for me too for what I do at the moment. Yes, ND 265 is definitely for longer and special exposures which I will probably at the moment not require.

Most people are going to need ND32 or 64s for the Mini 3.

The f/1.7 lens lets in a lot of light - old ND8 and 16s likely wont drop the shutter enough.

We're seeing 1/2000th+ shutter speeds for daytime, cloudy photos.  That's 5-6 stops of reduction needed.

Not going to work that way.
You need an extra stop or two because of the f/1.7 lens.

That's 1.5 stops more blocking required for a given light level than the Mavic 3.

So if you needed a ND16 on the mavic, you'd need *over* an ND32 on the Mini 3.

Filter packs for this drone are likely to need to START at ND32.

I agree with you,
It looks like many people doesn't know the meaning of f1.7 in aperture:

For a given exposure, where Air2s with f2.8 needs ISO 1600, a Mini3 needs about ISO600, or in time, where Air2s needs 1/60s exposure time to get the right exposure, with Mini3 needs about 1/200 to get same exposure, which means it is out of right exposure time to do a ritght 180º video rule if recording at 30fps.

I don't understand the movement of PolarPro or Freewell, but at least freewell have wider range of ND filters. PolarPro looks out of the right range.
I writed them asking about it but the answer was an escalation.

In other hand, ND256 looks a bit too high, but  you can use a higher ISO and get the right exposure time, and as you can see, in the last review of Philip Bloom, ND256 does not seem too high at all.

I thought the same but bear in mind it’s a much faster lens so I think 8/16 may largely be redundant.

actually, the best always-on ND (if you want the esteemed 'filmlook') even on cloudy days is:

ND128 (freewell or tiffen).

the film look needs a shutter at a low value, for 24p it's 1/50, for 30p 1/60. to achieve that, even ND64 is not enough on an F1.7 lens during daytime. so, ND256 is too strong (shutter goes down ti 1/25 or 1/40), hence 128 should yield the most cinematic results, especially when paired with the 10bit d-cinelike mode in h265 (it gives more latitude in bright and dark areas) – there are no controls for shutter, so better have the ISO go up but keep shutter down.

Nope-

the Mini 3 has a f/1.7 lens which is 1.5 stops faster than previous drones.  You'll want a 32,64 and 128 in the UK.  Wont need an 8 ever and unlikely to use a 16 either.

Most 3rd party filter manufactures completely neglected to factor in the new faster lens and sell default filter packs that aren't dark enough for common usage.

even 64 let's the shutter jump to 4-times the cinematic value (1/200 instead of 1/50 for 24/25p for example). we tested all of them and 256 is too strong (shutter goes to 1/25 or 1/40), so in the middle at 128 should be the best always-on cinematic filter.

Hello
I will buy a Mini 3 pro this afternoon. Unfortunately I will have only the possibility to buy the DJI ND filters - any other brand, I will have to wait for few days and I am about to leave on holiday.

I know Freewell are the most adviced ND filters, but how are DJI own filters? Is the quality good/bad? Many thanks!!
