Hi, does anyone know if the drivers support using the webcam function of the DJI ACTION 2 on Ubuntu 18.04?

Thanks!

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. The DJI Action 2 webcam only supports both Mac and Windows operating systems. You may use a different computer and use the webcam feature of the said camera. Thank you for your understanding and support.

I find this reply unfortunate. While DJI may choose what they want to support I think they should really think about the importance of supporting different platforms. Especially also consider the importance of open-source software and how much of the world and innovation is actually created on the fundation of open source (also open standards and hardware).

When it comes to webcam support on Linux this is not hard to implement. You can take the driverless plug and play approach. As far as I know the kernel already have different built-in support for this.

You could also open-source this software-specific problem. I am sure the community is more than assist with this to make it work well on Linux, however it should not be expected as this is done for free on their own free time.

I really hope DJI can reconsider Linux support once again. Also, please do not make it Ubuntu-specific. I think it is better to go with Flatpak which is a cross-distro approach. However, .deb packages are better than nothing as long as they are open source and can be recompiled for other distros.

What should be asked for is general Linux system support rather than specialised distro support. If it supports Linux, chances are it will work great on most distros. Because at the core it is still Linux whether you are using Debian-based distros like Ubuntu or Mint, or Fedora- or Arch-based distros.

We totally valued your feedback. I will take this as suggestion of yours and will forward it to our designated team for attention. Thank you for your understanding and support.

it's currently plug and play with v4l2. once the camera is in webcam mode it just picks it up and uses it.
$ v4l2-ctl --list-devices
DJIAction2: UVC Camera (usb-0000:36:00.4-1):
        /dev/video1
        /dev/video2

The best thing is that DJI uses linux by themselves and that means within the devices !!!!... like drones, remote controller, cameras etc.  all use a linux to run. But DJI ignores the users need giving false promises that they "direct the request to the development" blablabla, what of course never has an effect at all.

and so they fail to give linux support even though they use it already....what a lame thing that is !!!!

and it makes me NOT BUYING anything anymore from them
