So what is the most unreliable part of your drone kit?

Some might say propellers.

Some might say batteries.

Some might say the pilot in command.

I say -- The little cable between the remote and phone/tablet/ships computer/TARDIS!

I was having a lovely day at the tallgrass. It had been cloudy, but the sky was now clear. Off to the south was a front approaching. They expect rain tonight. The front was building some big cumulus clouds that were beautifully lit by the sun in the west. "Wow, let's make a hyper laps of that!"

So I put a fresh battery in Esri the Drone and set her a little up near me. Selected time laps mode, set the exposure a tad on the dark side and set a waypoint. Then flew about 1500ft out (460 meters). "See that speck? That's her." Pointed her so that big cloud was on the right third. "Oh, this is going to be great!" I hit the start button, but instead of saying "The aircraft is heading for the first way point," she said, "Remote control not connected to device."

What? Wiggled the wire. Plugged and unplugged. Now it's working.

"Remote control not connected to device."

"Well, this won't do." So I bailed out and hit return-to-home.


So get a couple (dozen) spares of your favorite connection cable and keep them in your drone kit. Would not have missed that cool shot if I had one.

Hello there Tentoes. I am sorry to read and to know what happened to your previous flight and thank you for sharing these interesting information with us. Again, I am sorry and keep flying.

After nearly crashing three times yesterday into boats Im going with the pilot being the weakest part.

No doubt about the cables being the weakest part of the drone kit.  I've replaced several of mine with braided cables as they are more durable and well made.  

Sorry you missed out on that promising photo op Tentoes.

Two new ones come tomorrow.

The original DJI one was just barely long enough to reach the connector of my S10+ phone. It broke in no time. Since then, I seem to have left a trail of dead USB cords.
