Hey,

Just got the new mini 3 pro, went to fly it and seems to be an issue with focus? After a couple of tweaks, I managed to get a really sharp image about 0.5m from the camera, however anything further was blurred, I have done reboots and reset the camera and gimbal.

This is my second drone, the first was the original mini which I've had no issues with and flew for a couple of years.

Just wondering if anyone had the same issue and suggested fixes. I would guess its a software issue as it can focus but only at a certain distance. So will do a full uninstall/reinstall the software

have ya tried double tapping the screen and auto focus?

This is what i would ask as well, did he mess-up with the manual focus ?

Thanks, yeah I've tried that, no joy also tried switching between manual and auto focus, which didn't help either. Seems like the focus is somehow stuck at like 0.5m?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

That's less than impressive. I hope you haven't got a faulty unit

Update: focus is definitely stuck at around 0.5m, tried changing focus on manual settings and no change, so thinking it may be a faulty unit.

Guess I'll contact the suppliers,

Did ya reset camera settings?

I've re-set camera and gimbal settings, and un-installed then re-installed the app

Is the lens clean?
Also try using high quality SD card.

Yup, lens is clean, and I've checked with different sd cards, the issue seems to be on focusing rather than picture quality. Everything close up is in sharp focus, but there's no movement when trying to change focus levels.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you can sort it out.

Maybe try and exchange for a replacement perhaps.

That's a straight swap out if you ask me, faulty drone. Good luck!

I posted tonight a similar issue. It tries to focus where i tap, but choses a different focus. I am travelling right now, and not able to test or provide footage. Will try some of the tipps here asap.

It may help after checking the latest firmware is installed to "Screen Record" and walk through both trying to focus in photo and video modes.  Then post the clip on here.

An update: spoke to the guys at dji and they said this is an error that sometimes happens with faulty drones (he implied it was hardware rather than software but I'm unsure if that's the case) I asked if this was a known issue with the mini 3, and they said it happens with all their drones, not mini 3 specific.

Have returned my drone via the seller (not dji directly) and am waiting for a return. Will let you know if I get the same issue or if its a good'un

I have the same issue with my MP3 - how did you get on with the replacement?  Was it sent in good time?

Replacement arrived on Tuesday, had a test flight yesterday and looks to be in working order. Took just over a week, but the supplier (jessops) said they were low in stock, plus we've had two days bank holiday in the UK as well, so deliveries have been delayed. Glad it's finally sorted though

Looking sharp!  Glad you got it fixed - I'm going around in circles with DJI support at the moment, very frustrating!

I have same Issue, pictures are blurry. Talked to DJI support nd they asked for pictures and firmware version of both drone and Rc controller. Lets see what happens.

I am having same issue too but mine use to focus no problem till I updated the software it all started ..

So how can I get such a sharp photo one day and two days later not sharp at all. 48MP mode 100% crop and AF. I prefocus on the spot before the train arrives. Shutter on the tack sharp is 800 and the blurry one is 3200. I have all the latest firmware and DJI Fly.

While doing half press for focusing , it gets clear ( while trying to autofocus) and again it get de focused and images get blurred

Good News

Same problem here. The autofoucus does not work. I have done all suggested troubleshooting explained on forums without any success. The manual focusing works good though.

Same problem, sent a short clip to support and see what they say. Looks like it's stuck on 0.5m focus. I have a feeling that if the gamble is focused close up (camera pointing at floor) when you start the drone that focus gets fixed and won't budge.

I had the same problem with a wavy picture it seemed to keep trying to focus and ending up with a blurry image. Tried to reload the firmware, that then grounded the drone, had to wait three days to get the  Beta Hardware which allowed it to fly but picture if anything was worse. Unfortunately now sent back for replacement.

I found that if I start the drone and it is focusing on something close to it as the camera sets up it gets stuck at that 50mm focus. It did it again today, so I restarted the drone facing out to the distance and as the camera started and focused it all went fine.

Good to hear. I kind of have the opposite problem. Objects a few meters are out of focus, but further out is fine.

I have mine since May and it has the same blur problem, but less blur than your´s. For video is OK and sharp. The camera and lenses are the same why is the video sharp, and the photos not. I am using my Mini 2 for photos and Mini 3 for video :-(

They said I have to send it in to the service center for further assessment which will take weeks at least. Seems DJI is selling defective units and letting their customers having to go through all the trouble and inconvenience.

The focus on my new Mini 3 and found to be sharp at 1 meter only.  I tested  both auto and manual focus after recalibrated everything.  When manually set to infinity focus, only objects 1 meter away were sharp.  The DJI tech said, after 48 minutes of texting, to either send it back to DJI for a free replacement or return it to Amazon, which I did.  The new Mini 3 arrived today and is perfectly sharp!
