Is zoom available in high frame rates in 4k on the Mini 3, as 60fps was one of the selling points for me, and sometimes a small bit of zoom is useful for certain effects.

It's only 2x on 4K and I'm pretty sure that applies to 60fps, but one of the current owners can correct me if I'm wrong

I don't appear to have that option when in the higher frame rates, and up to 2x (digital) zoom on lower frame rates.

Can you confirm that is also the case in 40k 60fps, as mine only seems to allow zoom in 40k 30fps (not tried anything other than 30 or 60fps)

See these images, to make it clear.  Note that 60fps (and its the same for 48fps and 50fps) have no onscreen zoom button (and the zoom scrollwheel does nothing)


The 30fps does show onscreen zoom button, and the scrollwheel works as expected.


Is this a firmware/app issue that DJI need to investigate?

Which is different to what the specs say, and what DJI have stated above.

So if others are seeing the same, I assume this is a firmware/app issue, rather than a specific fault with mine.

I fancy this will not be available in higher rates and could be a mistake in the specs. But maybe an update will change it.

Can live in hope, as 60fps was the main reason for me buying one.  And a bit of zoom is handy for certain effects not achievable in post.

Its digital zoom so the exact same effect is achievable in post.

I know its digital zoom, but you can still get parallax effects that are not reproducible in post ;)

Not on a digital zoom you cant.
Its literally doubling pixels (its not cropping to centre, its not even upscaling).
Its literally the same as cropping in post and then resizing.

Now you say that, I'm wondering if I'm confusing the effects with some of the other aircraft I have which do have optical zoom.

Either way, even a bit of digital zoom is useful, especially if you want to quick take something and upload it when out and about, away from a PC.  Obviously, if you go all the way to 2x, it will look degraded even without pixel hunting...

There is only one dji aircraft with optical zoom and thats Mavic Zoom.

Well, just in my DJI fleet that I have in this room I can see a Mavic 2 Zoom (a superb bit of kit) and a Mavic 3 that has a "zoom', just not an adjustable one.  And then the stuff you can bolt below the big boys...

But, believe it or not, there are other quadcopter beyond DJI ;)

Depends what side of that fence you sit on, as the mobile handset manufacturers (and others, probably unfair to pile all the blame on them) have twisted hybrid zooms with multiple fixed length lenses to be called as optical zoom.  Old school photography purists will insist on it having a single, variable length setup.  Personally, I couldn't care less.

That has. Nothing to do with the Lens on Mavic 3. Thats a fixed Lens it just happens to be x7 times the focal length of the main lens.

So its a hybrid zoom.  Like most mobiles.

But we digress, this thread was about if the lack of zoom on high frame rates with the Mini 3 is a firmware error, or if the spec sheet is wrong.
