My new Air 2S is wonderful with the new vision systems to avoid obstacles.

However, I notice it's stopping farther from wall (front vision) than my previous Mavic Pro Platinum when flying in for safe landing.

Specifically, my balcony is about 6.5 feet deep (wall to guardrail). Previously, my Mavic Pro Platinum can fly to about 5 feet from wall, thereby clearing the guardrail by a comfortable 1.5 feet behind it, then landing clear and safe.

Now the Air 2S is braking about 6 feet from wall. I got lucky today and scraped only propeller tips on guardrail when landing. Had barely six inches of clearance behind it. Not good.

Is there a way to adjust the settings so I can come closer to front obstacle — as close as 5 ft like before — without resorting to turning off the safety (going into Sport Mode?)?

I don't think you can set the braking distance.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the trouble that this has caused. Unfortunately, we don't have an option to modify this setting or set a specific value for the said settings due to hardware limitations. However, we will forward this to our designated team for further attention. Thank you for your valued support.

Have you tried rotating the drone 180 degrees and landing with its back to the wall?

Definitely something I will try next time. Then try sport mode. Thanks.

That does not help. The Air2s has rearward sensors as well.

You need to rotate 90 Degrees and fly sideways. I do this a lot flying indoors at home.

Forget Sport mode. Just turn OA off when landing.

Sideways is another good idea to try. Thanks.

Turning off OA would mean having to fiddle with the settings on screen while hovering?

Makes me think — what if I simply reached out and grabbed it with my hand while it's hovering? I assume I would then have to use my other hand to simultaneously hold the controller+iPad and at same time pull both joysticks downward inward for emergency propeller stop.

Propellers just magically stop by themselves once caught by hand?

I’m researching hand launch & landings and my relatively heavy iPad Pro 11-inch (not smart phone) attached as display means the one-handed control of both joysticks with the other hand becomes the trick maneuver. Becomes the challenge, the risk.
