I have planned to make a similar kind of biking test, thought with a couple of differences. My idea is to compare the Pocket 2 with a couple of other cameras - a cheap action camera, a simple camera meant for static placement with no stabilization whatsoever and a cheap pocket camera with electronic image stabilization. While I do think the comparison is not completely level due to the different price points and planned use scenarios, I think it could make for an interesting watch anyway. Also, I plan to mount these cameras on the hadlebar of the bicycle to make for smoother footage and safer ride. Will upload it for people to see here once I'm done.
What really surprised me in your video was how stable the footage was even when you held the Pocket 2 free-handed. Although the Pocket 2 gimbal is great, I do believe your stability with the riding and handling the camera also played their parts in the end result. There was only a little micro-jitter at one point, but you can't really help it without an z-axis stabilizer or excellent counter-balancing with hands (that's probably WAY too hard when you must concentrate on riding a bike).
Dangerous to had hold and ride. But, the place I recorded has no traffic. I feel the same that hand held is more stable as compared to mounted on bicycle. Frankly, hand held is not safe and must exercise extreme caution. |
