A few weeks ago I flew over Fernilee reservoir and posted a shot of the tower, which drew a number of enquiries as to its purpose.
This morning early, I went back for a closer look with the Mavic Mini One.  This is what it revealed:Scroll down for close-ups through the windows.

Pretty cool place, thanks for the follow up Bleriot. Now if we can just get a look or tour down those ominous stairs inside that would be interesting.

well Blériot that first shot is pretty much the duck's.
Also like the view in through the window to see the controls which still look to be manual.
Don't take any notice of Fred Fred Fred, he's only planting ideas in your head . Mind you, you do have an Osmo...

Yes. Each wheel is attached to a vertical pipe. There seem to be three or four of them. No doubt to open various sluices when the level gets too high. No risk of that at the moment.

Hi Fred. I did wonder about those stairs, and how deep they might go. As you can imagine, the place is securely locked up, and affixed with warning signs to keep out.

Hi Bruce. Thanks
It does look as though there are stairs leading downwards. No way to get in though, The place is securely locked up. Dire consequences for trespassing too

Ah ok, it’s to bad though, would’ve been interesting to see just how far those stairs go down but laws are laws, better to be obedient then fined or in jail.

Yes the large valve wheels are surely to control water flow out through the various sluices when the water level gets too hign. The Mini One did the peeping

So you haven't been getting that much rain lately.  Seems like for a while DAFlys was reporting rain almost daily.  Today is the first non-rain day here in over a week and I was excited to finally be able to fly the new Mini 3 Pro but just my luck - too windy with gusts to 35 mph.  I did get the Air 2S up but I got high wind warnings so brought it down and called it a day for flying.

Later, is more likely.  It's okay as I have a big chess match coming up this afternoon so at least I have something to keep me busy.

Some people hate chess but I really enjoy it and always trying to think 2 -3 moves in advance.  Helps to keep the old cobwebs from forming in the brain cells.

I was looking at a recent scientific study that revealed:

"When one approaches the age of 20, one begins to lose neurons. The numbers appear to be alarming, as approximately 50,000 neurons are lost a day.  By the time you reach 75 years of age, you will have lost 10% of the neurons in your brain.

Although we have lost neurons, we do not become more “dumb”, but the remaining neurons build new branches of fibers and new synapses between them, in a way that replaces the losses."

It was a fairly interesting study to say the least.
