Does anyone actually care. The day I see plod bring out a scale will be an interesting day indeed

I see I've stirred up a lively debate again

Although the Drone guy is obviously out to annoy the Police it also shows the arrogance of the Police and how ill informed they are about drones. So many Police are just power crazed and it is good to see them called out on occasion.

Of course if this had been in the US they would probably simply of shot you

Well it's 128Gb so that must weigh twice as much as a 64Gb, right?

I’m only flying 256gb cards now.

Yes, if those larger batteries were available in the UK (which they're not) it would lift the Mini3 into the next drone category. Which might defeat the object for some drone users.

No doubt the extra weight would be an issue for UK flyers and your caregory restrictions.  Here it is not an issue, no yet anyway.

the rules refer to the "take off" weight and since we've decided to throw out common sense with regards to the legal interpretation, how can anyone determine the weight at takeoff once the drone has crashed?

"at the time my drone took off, it weighed 249g....."  a crashed drone that weighs 270g, who can prove what it weighed when it took off?  nobody.  and answer of "270g or more" doesn't cut it because we've decided to stick to the precise letter of the law, right?  270g is the weight of the drone upon landing.

It depends on how many bugs or bird pooh you have picked up during your flight.
But on the other hand if you crash your drone and parts broke off it could also be less than 249g.

exactly what i mean.  some here are being serious.  if your drone crash and 5 pieces are collected at the scene and they weigh everything and come up with 270g, how is that supposed to "fly?"  it doesn't.  maybe you were or maybe you weren't but it's not going to be relevant to finding fault at a crash or assessing a multi-thousand pound fine.

my scale weighed in at 249g at take off.  i checked the rules again and i didn't see anything that said we're going to use your scale or my scale at take off.  it's unenforceable.  but again, i don't think it was meant to be unless it is obvious such as a mavic 3 which can never been mistaken for under 250g.

You can get some scissors and start cutting off slithers of propellor to reduce weight if you need to ;)

Here in Australia, we just do what we need to do to get the shot.

There is some margin for error, so I don't think we need to be that drastic

i may or may not agree with the perp in this video or in any of the videos.  someone asked me earlier why i post these and it is primarily because i want everyone to focus on the words and actions of the authorities affectionately known as the "drone police."  while i don't think each officer necessarily represents all officers, all departments, and the entire force as a whole, not once has anyone commented that the police were acting for the camera, being annoying, looking for views or raising money, antagonizing, or escalating.  therefore most everyone agrees with me:  what you see the police say and do in these videos is accurate and reflects what they do and say in real life under similar circumstances.  correct me if i am wrong please.  for example, if anyone says the police will not weigh your drone, i will post a video of law enforcement asking to or weighing your drone if and when i find one; yeah?

If an investigation starts you can be rest assured that the police will outsource to a UAV expert, it will include the physical evidence collected at the scene and any digital evidence, namely flight data. The class of drone will most certainly be a factor and to ascertain which class it belongs to, it will be weighed, they will not take the word of a sticker, that is for sure. If its found to be less than 250g because not all the physical evidence was found then lucky you

is the take-off weight logged electronically when you lift off?  if the drone is flying "heavy" is that flagged in the logs?

I think you knew the answer already, but like Labroides says, no there isn't on both counts, i was just stating what evidence would be collected.

No, i dont because its not what i was intending, as I've already said, I was mentioning the evidence collection not stating that weight can be seen in the logs.

Although, you have me thinking now, i wonder if 2 exact drones with the only difference one being a little heavier show the same or a difference, doesn't matter how small a difference?  prob one for you Labroides, would the motors show as using more propulsion?
