There are instances where they confine you to sick bay and other times they medevac you to a shorebased hospital.  I was deemed "essential personnel" so they didn't want to medevac me ashore.  Worked out okay in the long term but just glad we didn't have any emergencies as I was severely restricted with respect to mobility at the time.

I guess sick bay is still better than the bunks Ive seen on the TV of those American ships.    One I saw you didn't get a bunk,  you shared it with someone on the night shift.

They still do that on submarines.  They call it hot racking.  On almost all surface vessels each person has their own individual rack and locker(s).  Sick bay is just a standard hospital bed....mattress is hard as a brick.

My morning routine is an expresso before the forum and a coffee during it. .  Although today I broke from that a sprayed varnish in the workshop first.

Hard so that your not encouraged to stay,   I think thats why the food is always bad too.

I was quite surprised - they must have been storing them up.  But I have done quite a bit of flying these last few weeks.  Three drones to juggle now

All varnish spraying is now complete,   I can re coat every hour or a bit less in these summer temps,     the unit was just a little walnut stand for keeping my laptop out of the way when not in use,  later I will line it in foam and get some cork feet applied.

That should be do-able before the end of the year. But distance is only the secondary consideration really.

Your lucky,  were about the same distance to London as I thought you were to Manchester and we still get the Londoners coming-out for day trips.

That sounds like a pretty cool little project.  Nice to be handy with hour tools and carpentry skills.

As ours are free at the point of use they wouldn't want to encourage people to stay too long.

They don't have to discourage me....I'm not a fan of being hospitalized, so for sure never want to stay long.  After knee surgery the doctor wanted me to stay for 2-3 days.  On the morning of day 2 when the doctor came in to make rounds I was fully dressed and sitting on the chair next to the bed.  He goes "well I guess I don't have to ask how your are feeling or if you are ready to go home."  An hour later I was discharged.

This was only a very simple project,   needed only a saw and sander,  glue and clamps.

It was simple only because you have the requisite skill set.  For a newbie it would have been a bit of a challenge I'm sure.

I'm not super good at repairing things as it just doesn't come natural to me.  However, if I watch a YT video on how to do it normally I can accomplish the task.  More difficult tasks I know not to even take on and hire a professional to do it.

Its all about practise DT,  as a kid I used to take everything apart and if something is broken and going to the bin that there's nothing to loose in trying.....

Its usually what I tell people that want me to look at stuff,    although I admitted defeat yesterday with a petrol leaf blower,   its been getting harder and harder to start for a while and I know it needs a new gasket in the carb but its old and I just can't track one down,  so I bit the bullet and gave it to the scrap man.
