I did a little googling on why cops eat donuts. Here is what I found from an actual police officer that had over 26 years on the job.
" 1st of all police officers do not get a lunch break, you have to grab a bite when you can get one and many times that is doughnut shop. 2ndly: On the midnight shift many times the only places open at 4 or 5 AM are doughnut shops and that time of the day it is usually the slowest so you take what you can get. It is nearly impossible to get a chance to grab a bite between 9 PM and 3 AM. 3rd. it has also become almost legendary that cops eat donuts and in my 26 years on the force, I probably stopped at doughnut shops more than any other place. They also usually have great coffee. In addition over the years many cops opened doughnut shops. In one town in Michigan an entire police department bought a doughnut shop that was going out of business. They also with the help of Paramount Coffee started selling on a national basis Cops Coffee. Dunken Donuts was started by a retired cop and for years there policy was free coffee for cops after midnight. In the early years beat cops used to stop at bakeries while the bakers were just starting there day and were usually treated to a doughnut or two. And the final, doughnuts are easy to carry in a bag in squad car and keep for a long time." |
