It's a clear blue sky day with virtually no wind.  I have a new app from NAV Canada which shows where and how high it's safe to fly.
To date, I have never flown above 120m or 400ft.  I set a 100m horizontal circle in the app and thought how high can a go?  I moved the slider to 340m (ie1000ft) and the flight was approved!  So I made the flight.  Got a few weak signal warnings at about 260m alt but I was directly overhead, flew out horizontally a bit and the signal was back to full strength.
It sure is a different view from 1000ft up.  Below is a 360° pano.  I don't recommend trying this if it's windy because the wind will be much stronger at altitude and the drone could get blown away.

How did you create that embed?

The image is uploaded to my DJI Skypixel page.  A link from there is pasted in the "video media" icon of this forum.  The result is a live 360.

I would suggest that you ask your airspace authority whether such an authorisation is valid. Better safe than sorry.

My personal altitude record is 380m from the home point. It was achieved respecting the regulations, because the drone moved along the slope of a mountain keeping the distance from the ground less than 120m, until he reached the summit. In this video, starting at 1:23 you can see the landscape. In the background there is Como Lake, more than 1.000 m below.

Nav Canada is our country's airspace authority, I sent in a request, and they approved it.

That's great that provide a direct way to request permission like that. Seems like a sensible and helpful approach - which is so rare these days.

Is it a painless process and how long did the approval take to come through?

Approval is almost instant if the flight is in G-level airspace, however it can take days if the flight is around an airport.

That really sounds useful. I don't think the UK CAA have anything like that - just an app for showing you where not to fly....

I shot the pano with a mini 2.  The result is uploaded to my Skypixel page link below.  While there check out all of my other 360° panos.

It's not real difficult to fly upwards. However, the ambulance helicopters tend to fly around at 1200ft above sea level, and they can appear out of nowhere, if youre on a flight path.

In Australia, another problem is eagles, who like to chew up drones. They like to fly high, so if you meet one, your drone is doomed. DJI drones don't recover from being inverted, let alone half eaten.
