Just tried it out this morning; here's what I found
In general with any camera, I believe RS3 control of the camera is limited to trigger shutter button.
Press halfway to autofocus, press once to start recording, and press and hold to take a photo.
Specifically with G85 and the RSS control cable ... that stuff does work but only if the camera control dial is set to Movie mode. This seems normal for the camera's "shutter button".
Alternatively, G85 also has a dedicated start/stop recording button on top of the body. If the control dial is set to another mode (e.g. manual mode), then you must use that button to stop/start video; this is true regardless of RS3.
