The other day, I sent the Mavic2Zoom out on a reconnaissance mission to check the footpath I'll be using soon for my trip up Kinder Scout
At this point, the drone was circled by 2 or 3 buzzards, who clearly did'nt welcome the intrusion into their airspace.
I took the hint, turned tail and cleared off!

Yes, large sections of the most popular routes have been paved to combat erosion. Did you notice the paved ascent to MamTor in my post the other day?

I found the ones up to MamTor top to be fine.
The high numbers of visitors to the area are beginning to erode many of the trails.

They were just looking for their next meal.  I guess the M2Z didn't look appetizing enough.

That is quite the stone path leading up Kinder Scout.  Does look like an awesome place for a hike.

Well they're several times bigger than the drone.
I decided to get outta Dodge - fast
Lovely area for walks. I'm figuring out the best approach to Kinder.

No doubt the size differential between drone and the buzzards.  I've see a few really big buzzards over the years and they would have no trouble taking down a drone if they wanted to.

Locally, the hawks are the aggressive birds.  I had a hawk come at my old Mini 2 early one morning and I decided to get down and away from him quickly.  Found out real fast that hawks can dive faster than the Mini 2 so quickly switch to Sport Mode and ascended.  Fortunately, the hawk gave up as he couldn't catch up going upward.  I've seen that hawk in that same location a couple of times so I haven't been back there again.

Definitely warned, and now heeded.  The gulls are always checking out the drones but never in an aggressive manner like the hawks.

I did the walk along that path this morning - and over the hills toward the Pennine Way, then down past Kinder Reservoir - which is almost empty, I was surprised to see. Lots of buzzards, pheasant and grouse.
The game birds will have to mind their P's and Q's come the 12th August ( shooting season opens)

Hi Depp.  The M2Zoom was fine.  I took a hike up that trail this morning, with the Mini One in my backpack. It was rather windy but I managed a couple of 360panos, and a flight over the nearly-empty Kinder reservoir lower down the valley.

Ahh, the old hunting season.  I haven't been hunting in years but that was mostly for deer and turkeys.

I saw your posting on the reservoir and the water was really, really low.

Heavy rain today but l doubt it will go very far in replenishing the levels.

No doubt.  From the looks of the reservoir it would need several days of torrential rains to even make a dent in the shortage.

I imagine it could be next Spring before it regains its maximum level.

I've had buzzards circle my Phantom 4 in flight. The Mini 2 and Mavic 3 seem to draw attention from purple martins (smaller birds that eat flying insects). The Mavic is bigger than the Phantom, but the prop pitch from the Mini and Mavic seem to have a higher pitch and the purple martins appear to be drawn to the sound.

I'm sure you are spot on.  This year I'm seeing the opposite here with almost double the normal amount of rainfall which is keeping the local lakes and ponds full for the most part.

It is a bit amazing as to what attracts certain birds.  My experience is that most small birds do not approach my drones but gulls and hawks seem to be very inquisitive.  The hawks are down right aggressive, always looking for their next meal I guess.

For sure that is a positive.  We are pulling so much water out of the aquifiers under the state that I'm afraid that will cause many future sink holes.

Yes everything was fine. Just a few days later I hiked across those hills and did some more droning along the way, which you will see on the forum as you scan through.
