Heading back to Ranfurly we stopped to capture the sale yards from the air. Love the different tones of grass and mud in the pens.
I have been experimenting with mosaics and next time I'm in the area I'm going to lower the drone and flick it round so the long width of the sensor covers the short width of this image then with the drone completely parallell to the ground I'll take images as I move the drone across the subject so capturing it in about 5 or 6 images.
Technically this shouldn't work as when you stitch in PTGUI it expects panos to be shot from the same spot BUT by changing some settings it may just stitch perfectly. Here is what you do...

So to stitch mosaics, proceed as follows:

• Start a new project and load your source images
• Switch PTGui to Advanced mode using the Advanced button in the side bar
• Go to the Lens Settings tab and set the Lens type to Rectilinear. Set the Focal Length to a high value (e.g. 1000mm).
• In the Control Points menu choose 'Generate Control Points'
• Go to the Optimizer tab. Deselect the 'Optimize lens focal length' checkbox. At 'Minimize lens distortion', choose 'Heavy'.
• Press the Run Optimizer button (at the bottom)   When it asks if you want to run "Initialise and Otimize" don't!
• Now go to the Panorama Editor window by pressing Ctrl+E (Windows) or Command+E (Mac). First press the Center Panorama button, then press the Fit Panorama button.
  

Your mosaic is now ready to be stitched at the Create Panorama tab.

Your mileage may vary depending if you have any really tall objects in your shot, if things are moving or if you are really close to the ground BUT I tried this about 10m above a downed tree in a river in the weekend and it worked really well.  It allows you to capture a complete image with a higher degree of detail.

PS,  Ive been doing what you describe with the Mini3 and then sticking the images in Lightroom,   you just have to pick perspective mode,  you can made some truly huge images this way,  and very useful for mapping an area or getting a shot that usually you would have to exceed the height ceiling for.

The software is doing some pretty clever things here as it's lining up things that shouldn't line up! Blows me away. With masking abilities there is almost nothing you can't handle. But yes if you know a picture is going to be BIG it's a great technique. Hope to use it a lot more.

Looks almost like your tennis court ;-) Why would you want to stitch more pictures together? Better resolution? Can't go up high enough? Or just for fun?

Thanks Depp I always like to have a lot of detail in case someone wants to blow up big!  Mini 1 taught me it wasn't up for that and you had to interpolate heavily to get big enlargements which just held together. I wouldn't use it on all shots just important use cases.

You have the perfect drone as it is then   Software does most of the work for you, you'd be fine
