Absolutely amazing top down shot DA.    That's a very impressive junction.  I'm a bit lost as to why it can be called a weir when it is waterless.

I looked up the history and there used to be a tiny town there called “Weir” which was consumed by the larger town next door.

That's make sense for the name then.  Not too often you see a town get swallowed up by another close by town.

Just looked up the one in your Birmingham and it wins the spaghetti junction competition hands down.  That is an engineering marvel.

I can't find an exact data but the village weir probably got swallowed up around the 12th century.

Poor maintenance I believe was the cause the first time.   No one was checking that the pumps worked and that the pipes were clear.
