It's said that 3 species of raptors in Australia have the ability to  pick up flaming branches to carry them forward, lighting new fires as  they go, but the activity is yet to be captured on camera.  They are  collectively known as "firehawks".

Very sad to see the devastation caused by the fires.  Nice flying and great job of documenting this event.  Interesting story about the "firehawks".

I can understand why people are concerned about the fires from other countries but we are a bit more nuanced in certain parts of Australia. Out here Aboriginal people used to use firestick farming to flush out prey, which is exactly what the firehawks have learned to do, plus many of our plants rely on fire to open their very hard seed pods. So for much of Australia fire is just part of the ecosystem.
