The dis-used railway station.....

This is a shot I promised @Montfrooij some time ago.   This is the old Maldon railway station that remains long after they closed the railway and removed the tracks etc,  although the embankment for the tracks is still in place in a few places and forms a popular countryside walk.


Opened in 1847 and finally closed in 1966,  although various stages closed over the years before that date.


PS - I probably shouldnt do requests and dedications as Im too slow to catch up.

Cheers Mr B,   Its nice that they have preserved the old station building,   I think its now an office.  Albeit somewhat out of place with the bulding around it.

Yes, a bit incongruous perhaps, but a nice reminder of a bygone era.

There have been many calls to reinstate the line,  but I doubt they would reuse the building.

Superb capture DA.    Love the architecture of the railway station.  It does appear to stand out amongst all the new buildings.  Very fortunate that they decided to preserve a bit of history and keep the old station.

Cheers DT,   I personally find it the oddest most out of place thing,  well possibly almost second.   There is a house in the middle of an industrial park thats possibly weirder.

I'll have to try and get a shot of the other palaces as its surrounded by trees you dont really see unless its the middle of winter.

I think they deliberately wanted the trees around the place to hide it, but thats only my guess

Well, that does make sense and I'm sure it does hide them better, especially when looking from the ground level.
