"The Murder Hole"
Boyeeghter Bay, located in the northwest corner of Melmore Head, Ireland got its name from the Irish translation, Bá Íochtair meaning Lower Bay.
But the beach, known locally as Murder Hole beach, may have got its name from legend. When Fionn mac Cumhaill killed Goll Mac Morna in revenge for killing his father, it was said to have taken place at a rock, Carraic Ghoill, lying off the townland of Dooey. This gave the name to the entire headland, Headland of Goll or Rossgoill and possibly is also how this beautiful, peaceful beach ended up with such a violent name.

Scary but you can see the attraction. To get to this beach you must first hike 550 meter mountain followed by a 3km walk and repeat they same on the way back so you don’t want to be carrying anyone ;+)

In this instance the wall would have been built for the purpose of keeping livestock cattle and sheep grazing from tipping or sliding off the cliff, the wall would also have been built from stone that was cleared  to make the field viable ,
Dry stone walling was a pastime in Ireland 200 years ago ;+)
