Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has used the R4D in conjunction with the Alexa Mini or Sony Venice. I'm not a pro colourist and my goal here is to see if the R4D is a viable tool to use alongside my Alexa Mini.

I haven't had the chance to test the footage on the R4D yet but I was wondering if it would be possible to get a close match at identical white balances with both manufacturers' Rec709 LUTs. I know a lot of productions use Inspire 2 footage alongside Alexa Mini so I'm hoping that DJI's Rec709 LUTs will at least get it in the same ballpark.

Alternatively, has anyone tried using a Colour Space Transform in Resolve to convert D-Log gamma into Arri LogC3? That would not be ideal but at least I can try to create a conversion/monitoring LUT based off that for my lower budget jobs.

I'm also hoping the guys at DJI behind the colour science could chime in to share their insights to how they intend to use this very specialised tool alongside an Alexa or Venice.

Yes they match as with any other camera... You only have to match the Alexa Mini or Sony Venice footage to the Ronin 4D, thats the trick.Since the other two cameras can shoot on RAW, you have more headroom to recover highlights and shadow detail, right now, you're a little more limited on the 4D so be precise on the exposure, stablish the look of the scene on the camera with less headroom and then match the others. Another trick is using a chart for every light setup and then balance all the shots to that.

Theres no problem.

Thanks for the reply. I think I need to clarify that I am asking if the Ronin 4D Rec 709 LUT matches with the Arri Rec 709 image ON SET. The reason is because when shooting I need to monitor and match the cameras in terms of lighting, exposure and white balance. I’m pretty confident of matching them in post but the issue is with working with the two cameras simultaneously on set.

Havent tried with the Alexa but you shouldnt have any problem matching them.   If your video assist monitors are calibrated you can even match it by eye. I dont think you will get a perfect match but you can get it close enough and tweak it in Resolve.
