A cold front caused a thick mist to form overnight in the valley here.
But high above Kinder Plateau the sun was out, bathing the lower slopes in a golden glow.
Despite the freshening wind, the Mini3Pro was able to achieve a few minutes of flight.

As we climbed higher the wind was whipping across the plateau - too strong for the drone.

What on earth are those? Maybe a potential future drone flight to solve the mystery?

Hi Bussty. Thanks. There's no mystery to that patchwork effect.
Game birds - mainly grouse and some pheasant, abound on these moors.
Their habitat is managed and preserved by systematic controlled burning, which gives rise to this curious
landscape only visible from above.

Wow very interesting, so each patch is a carefully burnt area of heather?

Very robust supply of information to questions in that link, clearly some controversy involved in the burnings.

The biggest problem is accidental burning caused by irresponsible picnickers and disposable barbecues during the dry summers. This often leads to uncontrolled wildfires that have to be extinguished by the emergency services.

Low cloud came over and enshrouded us for a little while, but visibility wasn't too bad. And it soon cleared with full sun for the descent.

That's one fantastic capture Mr. B.    Quite the contrast in that you captured the heavy mist in the background over the valley yet the sun is warming the hills in the foreground. Sad that the wind was so strong as that could have made for some really cool footage.  Still produced a really great shot though.

I'm making preparations for the upcoming Hurricane (Ian).  Have to decide if I need to get the boat underway or ride it out. The local Navy and Coast Guard ships are all getting underway today so that might sway my decision.

Due to Hurricane Ian I had to get underway and I am about 150 NM east of the Florida coastline now.  Will probably go at least another 50-75 NM further today.  Nothing but miles of ocean to look at for the next few days.

I'm using Musk's Starlink satellite internet service.  Very stable but not the fastest speed.

Very true.  Considering the boat is moving up and down with the swells it does lock onto the satellite signals really well.

It's definitely been nice to have a steady internet connection.  I also have a Satellite phone in case of a dire emergency.

It was so damp and misty that morning l almost stayed home. But once l got above it into the sunshine it was glorious. Just the wind to contend with higher up.
