Hi,
I have a mavic mini where the motors stopped mid flight and crashed, a brief overpower warning was shown but it fell to the ground right after the warning was given.  It is out of warranty and DJI is wanting $179 for the repair... but what if this happens again to the replacement?  Any idea what I should do?

Here is the video of the crash.

Hi JJB,

Here is the flight log.

Hi,

Had a look at your log, see my chart of your data.
Watching the video, attitude change in the log shown by the drone pitch and roll values.
In the log motor error warning.

So unfortunately no other errors to explain what happend.

Looks like a motor power supply fail, as the amps drawn did not increase.
(amp increase seen when a motor gets blocked, more power needed to keep the revs)

cheers
JJB

Hi,

Yes, I have no idea why it stopped mid flight so I am worried if I fix it, the problem will happen again and I will out of a drone/repair costs again.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

if it is repaired by DJI , should be oke ofcourse

But how to buy just a new Mavic Mini compared to repair costst....

Or mayby upgrade to a MINI2, so much better than the 1 !

Download the software "CsvView " from https://datfile.net/CsvView/downloads.html .
If you have not synced the logs on the phone with DJI ........ DO NOT.......... at the moment.
Rather, have a look at the flight records folder and see if there are DAT logs in the "MCDatFlightRecords" folder, if so you can hopefully find the DAT corresponding to the flight, same date and near enough the same time and probably containing "FLY020" in the name.  If so, down load teh DATs to your computer (Windows required, I think).
That DAT maybe readable by CsvView, my Mavic Mini's DAT's are readable up to the FLY app version 1.5.4 which the latest version I have used with the drone.
If so have a look at the motor speeds graphs.
If you don't have windows then upload the file to cloud storage site, make the DAT public and post a link here.

My MCDatFlightRecords folder is empty.  I have my flight records auto-synced.  Thanks..

Ah that is a pity, even if it got you no farther forward it would have been interesting to see what the motor speeds did.

Something else has just come to mind. With my Mini  (700+ flights) I recently felt a slight click on the left rear motor.

Whilst investigating this I removed the motor from its housing, so that I could grip the motor's base with my fingers and see if I could feel any bearing wobble, I could not feel any wobble. On remounting the motor in its housing I got the impression that I had to screw the screws in farther to get them to clamp the motor to the arm than I unscrewed the screws to release the motor from the arm during the dismantling.
I am left wondering if the screws had become partially unscrewed, I now feel no click in that motor.

It might be an idea to check if all the screws (3? each motor) are tight. The screws of the front motors are covered by a foam pad, I do not know how easy it is to remove that pad.

Reading JJB answers something comes to mind, if you the drone is still largely in one piece and will boot I would be inclined to remove the props (keep them in their pairings), try to switch the drone on and see if the motors will start.
That said, I see no reason why there would be an increased risk of failure with a DJI repaired drone than there would be with a new drone.
I suspect that is is unlikely that you would get your old drone back and more likely that you would be send a refurbished drone or maybe even a brand new one.

Are you into DIY repairs?
To be honest the Mini is a fairly simple drone to dismantle and rebuild, a reasonably good soldering iron is the only 'specialised' tool that is required. If I remember corectly the ESC/Motor control board is a separate form the main board and quite easy to replace. A main board replacing is more complicated as it required re-pairing the mainboard and gimbal and the DIY verion of this leaves an 'annoying ' residual error message.

I have rebuilt/reshelled a Mini 2 ( essentially the same as a Mavic Mini)  and from memory it took maybe a day but was being slow and careful as it was my first, I think re;pcaing the power board and an arm/motor could be done by a DIY'er in 3 to 4 hours.
I like to tinker ......but it is not everyone's cup of tea.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out and we're sorry for the unpleasant experience. In this kind of situation, I'm afraid that you may consider sending the unit in for a proper diagnosis. You can contact our support team to start up a ticket at https://www.dji.com/support . Also, the warranty can be applied depending on the outcome of the damage assessment including the warranty period of your unit. Thank you for your kind and understanding.
