Happy Sunday back at you DA.  Going to get some routine maintenance done on the boat then hopefully take the Mini 3 out for a short flight - weather permitting - of course.

It probably is time to clean the bottom again but I'm putting that off for a week or so.  Changing oil and air filters on several engines and generators.  I also have a little topside cleaning and polishing to do.  I can't let this salt air get ahead of me.

Ive had a few people lately stop and ask me about it,   kids love watching it land and it drives some dogs crazy.  Only once was a women angry about it.

My inspiration too this last week has been lacking.  I did catch 17 seconds of a calf drinking from its mother,  but not with the drone.

Mostly, yes.  The oil and filter changes are based on hours the engines have run.  I also keep an eye on the brushes on the generators.  This is fairly easy maintenance and not overly expensive.

Do you have one of those oil pumps to get the old out of the engine,  otherwise aren't those quite hard to reach in tight places.

This boat was super engineered for easy maintenance.  With the exception of the back-up generator all the engines have drain pumps installed on them.  Makes everything easy peasy.

Now thats super,  Ive not seen that on a boat engine before.   The ones Ive seen you feed a pipe down the dipstick hole typical and either its electric or a hand pump.    Curiously I also saw it once in Hong Kong,   walked past a taxi station and several cars were changing the oil with hand pumps.

You're right as not all boats have the pumps on them and they have to use an electric or hand pump to remove the oil.  The pumps were, without a doubt, added cost but well worth it to me in the time and effort you save when changing oil and filters.

The ones Ive seen measure the oil removed so you know exactly how much to put back in,  does the built in system do the same?

It has a digital gauge that I've found to be extremely accurate.  I have no idea how the technology within the gauge works but it just does.

I have something similar on my water filter,  it measures how much has been used so you know when the filter should be replaced,  it works by the liquid turning a propellor and the pulses from it are counted.

I appreciate the knowledge on that.  Never figured it would something as simple as that.  It really works great, however simplistic it is.

Its like project 365,   but project 12 is to take one seasonal photo a month.  I then make a calendar for the family/friends.

I remember the calendar project from last year I just didn't equate it with Project 12.  Guess I'm a bit slow on the uptake lately.

Ah yes Ive been doing it for the last few years. SHMBO'd likes these "micro" calendars as they are easy to post and the place she used to buy them from stopped selling them,  and when she enquired they offered her one from many years ago which was the right calendar just the wrong year and it confused everyone.   So now I make a batch,   and its not easy to get 12 seasonal shots.

Yeah, but with your vast archive of footage I bet you will be able to accomplish the task at hand.  May not be easy, but at least doable.  Beside, got to keep SHMBO happy.  As they say "happy wife, happy life".

Well I try and make them seasonal and from this year,  So for example no snow shots in this calendar.   

I do keep threatening to make one just for the castle through the seasons.

Cheers DT,  Ive already started a folder for the 2024 images. Im going to try and be more organised with it this year.
