Has anybody tried the sample app for the MSDK v5? The build instructions aren't really clear and it is not clearly stated how to build it.

I did. The built was successful as well as the app registration. However, for some reasons I cannot connect to the drone (Mini 3 Pro). If I plugin the USB cable, the app states "Product: UNKNOWN" and I cannot do anything with it.

Have you checked, that the sample app uses the sdk version 5.3? Earlier versions won't support that drone.
