In the Bay of Wismar lies the small island of Poel in the southern Baltic Sea, which can be reached from the mainland via a chain of small dams and bridges.

Crop dusters of the East German Interflug used to take off here until this practice became obsolete after reunification. Actually, it is astonishing that no pilot ever tried to reach the airport in Lübeck, which is only 55 km away (nevertheless, there was a successful escape with a crop duster in 1973 from an airfield further south on the mainland!).

The small island of Langenwerder is located off the east coast of Poel. It houses only an observation station for the numerous sea birds.

And after another 250 km towards the east-northeast across the Baltic Sea you reach the place where a few weeks ago a natural gas pipeline exploded completely unexpected under friendly treatment...
