This used to be a spice factory (where they made and packed spice mixes). They moved most of their production to another (modern) location now, but I had a side job here for a couple of summers when I was 16-18 (that feels like a long long time ago).
Good memories, especially the night shifts were super nice.
And the smell of the spices on your skin... My mother did not like that btw, because I would sweat it out during sleep and my bed got all yellow from the Turmeric

Some years ago I worked on a project to move into a new building,    the building had previously been a spice packing factory and oh my the smell.   It took months to start to disappear.

Yeah, I remember when I had to mix with pepper.
There were big (huge) stainless steel cone shapes with huge rotating helix blenders.
We had to climb into these things and clean them up using a brush.
That was super sweaty and the spices would get in your skin.
Sometimes it was itchy, sometimes quite painful (hot spices)

It was super scary.
Opening the hatch, putting in a ladder and climbing down.
Nothing fixed to hold on to (it is all as smooth as possible to prevent spices from sticking)
Hoping I would not fall down, as this helix thing was quite sharp when you had some momentum.....
Yeah, those were the days.
Luckily the engine of the helix was blocked when the hatch was open, but 'if' it would start with me in it, I would become minced meat in no time.

I learned to appreciate logistics (production logistics) here even more and decided I wanted to make my profession out of that during the long shifts at night (when I could do everything myself very efficiently and got 150% done of what I should have done).

I still dont like the sound of that,  although Im more risk adverse these days than I was when I was younger.

It was my least favorite part of the shift.
But it had to be done before a new batch (order) could be started.

I was never able to do a night shift in  my profession but I've heard that most people can be more productive during a night shift.  When I had my land house my old next door neighbor was a Production Manager for a manufacturing firm and he said that the night crew always exceeded production goals.  He used to tell me that too much socializing went on during the day to distract the workers.  He said they never had a problem keeping the night shift full.  Could have been the extra pay they earned was an incentive to work nights.

I would not want to work at night anymore.
But back then it was nice.
Good payments, not much distraction.
No bosses around, so I could do it my way.
Which helped me a lot in understanding what works and what does not work.

Short pleasantries are nice but long conversations can be quite counter productive depending on the work environment.  I always liked to get on task and then stay on task until it was complete.
