An uninspiring sunrise...............

After a late night last night,  well just past midnight.  Thew forecast was good for a nice sunrise this morning so I dragged myself out,  only to be disappointed.   SHMBO'd refused to come well in advance and I can say she judged that one right.

Taken with the Mini 3 Pro.

It looks like you see the HDR edit around the tip of the mast.

Quite the moody ambience to that shot.

Sorry the sunrise didn't live up to your expectations but I still like the shot and applaud your effort in getting up and taking the shot.

Check.
I won't say anything about it.
You can also get these edges with heavy HDR edits.

Ahh, so it is very cold there.  If I remember correctly you have some nice gloves that still give you a good feel on the sticks.

I selected the subject in Lightroom but it ignored the mast so I painted on a rough mask so I could bump the white in the boat.    It was a quick and dirty edit as I’m not that taken with the shot.

Yes.  And I  just found where I put them.

Good timing on finding them.  Might as well keep them handy as I'm sure the temps will be in a steady decline moving forward into winter.

Just spent an hour on the roof changing a ball float value in a water tank and I can tell you I could have used some gloves,   had to do it in the rain sadly. But the tank water was tea coloured and the old valve washing dropping blue oxidisation into the water.

I bet you worked quickly then.

Changing the ball valve is quite quick the issue is draining the tank to clean it and then waiting for it to refill so you can adjust the ball to the right height.

Does look easy to change ball valve.  If that is mounted on the roof isn't there a chance the water inside will freeze?

It’s in a wooden enclosure that’s I dilated all around and above. But heat from the house can get around the tank too.   Also there is a smaller tank next to it that is hot when the heating is in.   The lid is so well insulated it’s a two person lift to get it off,  although last year the heavy wind we had did blow it off so I’ve added some brackets so it can be fixed in place with screws.

Okay, that makes more sense to me now.  No doubt it is well insulated.

I guess I was thinking about a hunting trip I had years back to Alaska where the water froze in the pipe in the ground between the well and the hunting cabin we stayed in.   The well had a super insulated "dog house" built around it but I guess the ground freezes down quite deep in southeast Alaska.

Hunting was good though as we bagged a couple of large Moose.

It’s not uncommon for pipes in roofs here to freeze on the winter. I worked with a guy once that had that issue.  Luckily he realised there was a problem before it melted and flooded his house.

I had moose once,  wasn’t a fan.

Frozen water and a leaky roof must have made for a horrendous issue.

I didn't eat any of the moose so I have no idea how it tasted.  I traded my portion for a bunch of sockeye salmon.

Yeah, I remember you telling me once before that you didn't like salmon.  I like it but only when it is cooked certain ways.  I guess I'm really a seafood lover as I eat almost all seafoods.  I especially like lobsters and crabs.

But of the most part doesn't salmon come from rivers and not the sea?

Salmon are considered “anadromous” which means they live in both fresh and salt water.  They are born in freshwater where they spend a few months to a few years (depending on the species) before moving out to the ocean where they gain most of their body mass.  When it’s time to spawn, they head back to freshwater.
