On my first flight with the Avata today I was having a good time (ran 4 batteries through it), got a little over zealous and clipped a wood pole.  The Avata fell but I was able to Turtle Mode it, and get it back flying, only damage I found was a crack that goes almost all teh way around the prop guard. Its not completely cracked through, but I am impressed how easily the the plastic was damaged.  Anyone else see these kind of cracks happen on fairly light hits?

I ordered 2 more protectors just to have some spares since these seem more fragile than I expected. (happy its cheap, but still less than awesome)

I've had so many crashes and never had this happen yet (the big word here is yet lol). So it seems maybe this one was faulty from the start. My drone even fell 62 feet onto concrete and just got a scratch and a few scuffs, however, I must say it crushed my battery lol. It's fairly easy to replace it though, so when you get your new one, look on YouTube, lots of videos there showing how to replace it.

Hi, JoeJK3D. Thank you for reaching out and we are sorry to read about the accident. On the contrary, we are glad to know that only minimal damage has been incurred by the drone. Please note that the DJI Avata propeller guard will be distorted if the drone flies forward and collides at a speed of 8-10 m/s. Furthermore, we highly suggest that you continue to monitor the performance of the drone. If you notice some abnormalities after the said crash, you may consider sending the drone back to us for a proper diagnosis as such an accident may cause damage to its internal components. Should the need arise, you may submit an online repair request through this link: {https://repair.dji.com/repair/index}. If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to post here at DJI Forum. Thank you for your valued support.

You say "light crash"... If you hit something at 60km/h that doesnt budge, its a hard crash. If you hit a bush, that would be a light crash. It's probably an unlucky hit in the right angle, it can happen.

Clipping a light pole that doesn't budge is not in anyway a light crash.  Like mentioned above it most likely hit at a such a fragile angle.

Who said hit something at 60Km/h??  The fastest speed teh drone was going when it tagged the wood pole was like 8mph.  (sorry for the unit conversion).  this was my first flight out with the drone so I was NOT pushing it, and not in manual mode (just the motion controller in Normal mode)

it was a wood post, but yeah.  Compared to the speed the drone can go and how slow it was going when it hit, I figure it as a "light hit".  (Normal mode, motion controller, and I had just turned around, so I was accelerating and was ~ 8mph according to the goggles.

In that case it would be considered a light crash sound like it was just hit at the weakest point of the guard.  Hope all goes well with it.

Hi all, I bought my 3rd drone last week and it is the DJI Avata 2 and I love this thing, getting use to flying with FPV as I fell over twice getting dizzy.  Anyway I was flying outside our shop and decided to fly inside were we have 200K and higher custom car builds and I was just hovering over a 57 chevy custom build and I was sitting down outside the shop in the parking lot.  Well I go a low battery RTH so I stood up and started walking in the shop to just grab the drone and I made two step while taking off my goggle to see the avatar 2 just drop and hit the fender on the 57 chevy, dropped hard, lucky just before I flew I put a couple of the rubber protectors I bought off amazon and it only made a black streak on the paint job and it wiped right off.  Not so lucky with my drone.  It looked ok by a glance but I went to fly again and got the "crash detected" etc. check props for cracks well the actual guard was bent and the back RH prop was scraping the inside guard.  I had thought the rubber protector I bought slid and got in the prop and caused the crash, and the so called rookie I am at the moment when I got the RTH signal I didn't turn off RTH and I think what happened is the drone started heading straight up as it should I guess for the RTH without turning it off and it hit the ceiling then came down.  I bought this at Best Buy as the talked me into buying the "total protection plan" for 180.00 a year.  Took it to Best Buy and they first said they had to send the drone to DJI but then they said no we will replace it on the spot new but there is a 100.00 deductible so it cost me 280 to get a brand new Avata replaced for my stupidy I guess.  I had thought the RTH would since it had obstructions above that you can't do up but I guess not.  I sure learned from my mistake but I was very surprised it bent the guard.  Kinda like bending plastic back and forth and it turn white, that is what this did.  I just got the replacement yesterday so I have like 24 hours yet to buy the DJI care is that any good?  should I get that on top of my Best Buy total protection, IDK if DJI has a deductible on their care plan I haven't read up on it.  Anyway, first post sorry for the long message just vented it out.  I was bummed I messed up my first 1200 drone and I plan to keep buying more soon and take my 107.  Take care.. suggestions on the DJI protection would be appreciated.  Sarge

You say "just drop", was the initial descent a controlled descent or a free fall ?
I would not be surprised if it was an initial controlled descent due to the drone not having GPS and thus not being able to RTH.
What was the lighting like inside the workshop ?
