If you have the 1.5m selfie stick, have you tried to attach a tripod leg to its bottom and fully extend the stick to use it for shooting (eg timelapse)? Was curious about how stable is it? I would not plan to use it in a tornado but was thinking about getting an extendable selfie stick that is longer, so I can attach a tripod leg at its bottom and use it for timelapses. The DJI stick would seem to be sufficient for me but not sure about its construction, how sturdy it is when extended all the way, etc. Would a light breeze move the camera on it?

It will not be steady at all.
The selfie stick is so thin and easily move in just a little wind.

You could always buy a cheap tripod for $20-$30 and extend it.

I have a tripod but it’s a beast and I don’t like to carry it with me. Especially on a bike.

I do have a selfie stick with threaded hole at the bottom so you can use it to extend from your tripod or perhaps use some kind of clamp or even small stand indoors anyway.
Only suitable for very small cameras though you don't have to extend it fully.
I can also attach it to a stronger monopod for an almost drone-like effect about 20ft in the air if you hold it arms length.

I used a clone shorty last nite    you want to do timelapses with it in Portrait and extended. suggest you use a sandbag or weigh the base down, and not gonna worry bout it falling over as others mention

See in my video that  tripod stand   its weighted down and  the winds were kicking to the storm t hat came from the south the other night
they make bags with holes  https://amzn.to/3UCpXWH

I have the Ulanzi MT-14. Cheap, nice, fitting well.
I have not tried yet outside but I suppose if it is windy and for timelapse you will need to put sandbags on the feet for stabilisation.

Ok, so the shopping list is...

  • DJI 1.5m extension pole
  • tripod legs
  • 3 sandbags

And I need 826 more points to get 10 bucks off the DJI store.

I like that Ulanzi leg that it's extendable. But I might go for an aluminum one.

I used it with a Manfrotto MTPIXIEVO as base tripod. It worked very well but with almost no wind outdoor. I did 2 good timelapses in this way. However, the stick being quite thin when fully extended, wind will make it oscillate. All depend on wind strength, and ... resonance frequency of the rod+OA3 system!
Manfrotto MTPIXIEVO (can support DSLRs; has a ball, so easy to make the rod vertical on rough terrain):
lenght when folded: 20.5cm
Item Weight: 267 Grams
Weight Limit: 2.5 Kilograms

Hi there, osmonauta. Thank you for your inquiry. The Osmo Action 3 1.5m Extension Rod is made of an aluminum alloy, and the handle is a silicone rubber pad. It's made to be compact, easy to hold, and adjustable. For the sturdiness, we'll leave it to your DJI co-users who have first-hand experience with the product. But we highly recommend using this official accessory as performance is guaranteed.  Should you have any concerns or inquiries, please do not hesitate to reach us here at DJI Forum. Thank you for your continued support.

I have selfie-stick from Insta360, and in when it's a lot of snow I stick it in the snow when making videos. But it still moves a little and not fully extended.

Yeah, I know about the Telesin, but that's only 90cm tall. I'd like it to be a little taller. 1.5m would e about the right size.

Yes, that's what I was thinking about since the Telesin leg is aluminum.

I assume it is metal/aluminum? I prolly won't go to the length of securing it to the ground otherwise the streets will be full of holes and the police could eventually track me down by following the holes in the sidewalk :-)

I do like the Telesin one because it can fold upwards and this way the whole thing could fit into my pocket or a simple bike bag.

Hi guys. One question. Can 3 finger mount be unscrewed from DJI selfie stick so that only 1/4 thread stands alone. I was planing to use it on Insta360 x3 and i am afraid that tilted 3 finger mount may be a problem for invisible stick? Tnx

Oh, sorry, didn't realize it. I was too focused on the microphone test :-) The stick seems to be holding up pretty good even at that height. I didn't notice any movement.

So finally I got this extension rod (the DJI one). It's pretty good! It's fun sticking it way out of the balcony or holding it up and see the world from places I haven't before. Oh, and I LOVED THE SMELL! Holy Jesus and Joseph, I could not keep it away from my nose :-) the NEW smell... love it! :-)

I was surprised it didn't came with a lanyard even though it has a hole for it. I doubled checked the box to make sure it wasn't hiding somewhere, but nope.

Yes, it's a little wiggly if I extend it all the way and attach it to a small tabletop tripod, but that's ok. I still like it.

PS: Luckily I had a coupon because €12 something shipping is... phew... that's a little steep! That's twice what Amazon is charging for shipping from Germany.

Would love for DJI to make an adjustable strap that holds the DJI Action 2 Remote Control so you could put it on your wrist or backpack strap to control the camera on the stick
