If you switch the DJI Air 2s into sports mode while it is returning to home the drone does not stop and instead continues returning to home. Previous models including the Mavic Air 2 would cease the return to home functionality by hovering in mid air when entering sports mode. Is this intended behavior or a bug?

That's how it works.

guess they changed this in the software...
Indeed switching mode from any mode to another did kill the RTH.

But the only "normal" way to stop a RTH is to press the pause/stop/rth button.

RTH has its own max speed.
Speed can be increased by pulling forward on the stick while in RTH
Switching the mode switch from any position to another will cancel the RTH.

Nope, JJB, switching speed mode will no longer cancel RTH. It did, but one of the updates this last year did away with it. You can increase speed with stick, and change altitude.

I flew mine right after posting. We have a school being constructed close by and I am documenting it with Hyperlapses. When I hit RTH, I tried it and it no longer stops when changing speed modes. This was changed in the past year, I remember that being one of the documented ways to halt RTH. Just for fun, as it was flying to the first waypoint, I changed the mode and the speed DID change. That surprised me.

Hello there. For the following aircraft below:

Mavic 2
Mavic Air
Mavic Pro
Spark
Phantom 4
Phantom 4 Pro/+
Phantom 4 Advanced/+
Phantom 4 Pro V2.0/+

The Smart RTH mode can be enabled when the aircraft is in Sport mode. After entering the RTH mode, the RTH performance and the speed performance are the same as that in P-mode. No matter whether the aircraft is in P-mode or Sport mode, switching the flight mode during RTH is equivalent to pressing the Flight Pause button and exiting RTH. Similarly, during auto landing after return-to-home (RTH mode), the situation is the same as the above situation. When the flight mode (S-mode/P-mode) is switched, the auto landing will be exited automatically.
