DJI urges drone pilots to update apps before map services overhaul

DJI is planning to update the map services for some of its drone flight apps. If you are not using the latest version of the app/remote controller, you may not be able to view the map correctly. Here’s what you need to know…

According to DJI, older versions of its drone flight apps may not display the accurate location information of the aircraft and the surrounding area because of incompatibility with an imminent overhaul of the mapping services. As such, the tech giant is urging operators to update their apps and remote controllers before November 25, 2022.

DJI always continues to iterate and release more advanced product functions. To provide a better service experience, we will soon update the map services for some apps. It is recommended to update the app/remote controller before November 25, 2022, to continue to benefit from regular feature updates and performance improvements. Continuing using older versions of the DJI app will negatively impact map display. We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

Below, you can find the complete list of DJI products that are affected by this announcement:

I must have missed that,  but this came up when trying to find out what changed on the smart controller to see if it was worth updating.  

Thanks DA.    I don't remember getting a notification on this.

Yes, plus it was gone from the homepage in not time.

I'm debating these updates you draw our attention to.  Surely it's normal to do updates AFTER a modification to the data rather than BEFORE?

Depends,     if its the map service that is changing thats outside their control so you would get the update in before in preparation for the service they are currently using changing or being turned off.

Could also argue its a convenient cynical attempt to get people to update to versions of the apps where the old hacks for things like disabling remote ID and Aeroscope data no longer work.

I cant find technical details of this overhaul to gauge how genuine it is or not.

In theory mapping should no longer work if you haven't updated,  so I might have to fire up the smart controller and see if thats true or not.

No idea when they're changing but my SC still works with maps (not that i use them much anyway).

I just want details of what they're changing from and to, and why before deciding whether to upgrade.

(Not that i can test on my tablet or my phone since Go4 still wont work on newer android versions).

They implied the 25th.

OK so whatever was meant to have happened may not have happened - i still have maps on my SC unless they're cached.

Well they haven't updated DJI Pilot PE which has effectively made it useless for surveying with the mavic 2 pro.

The mavic 2 pro is not compatible with DJI pilot according to DJI, except that in reality it is, because it uses the same hardware as the mavic 2 enterprise, but has a much better camera!

DJI has yet again made it's software go bad for a really good surveying platform!

M2P also works with DJI pilot pe which hasn't been updated. I know it also works with go4 but you can't plan survey transects with that. DJI pilot has also been updated, but the icon disappears unless you have an enterprise drone which aren't as good as the m2p for photogrammetry.

Many people use DJI Pilot PE on their Mavic 2 Pro (not Enterprise) for mapping.

Didnt work for me and i was told by dji its not a supported model, which is confirmed on the download page.  Ive since moved to dronedeploy when i need to do mapping.

The maps are displaying properly on the Smart Controller after updating to GO4 V4.3.54; but now the 2 toggle switches for UUID drone identification will automatically go back to ON, even if they were turned OFF manually. Another sneaky attempt by DJI!!!

Thats been true with a lot of the updates in the past.

Any users having trouble with the new map services? We lost all ability to zoom in while using our AGRAS units. (firmware mg app 1.8.27) New maps are useless for spray drones
