Out and about with the Pocket2 yesterday, I spotted this unusual Armorial on an old building, which is still in use as a shop.I'm left wondering what the original trade was, when the place was new.  Drew a blank on Mr. Goggle.
And for the usual supects, can you guess where I was?

Those are some unique designs on the armorial.  I've been doing some light research on armorial bearings, specifically ones used by my ancestral Knights during the crusades.  I must say the shield you captured doesn't resemble any of the ones I've seen to date.

Apparently, scallop shells are a common emblem, but l don't know what they signify.

Apparently, scallop shells are a common emblem, but l don't know what they signify.

Per this website scallop shells mean:

Frequently appearing as an inanimate heraldic charge, the escallop shell initially served as an emblem for pilgrims. From this early usage derived its later employment in heraldry, as a sign of long voyages to distant lands. It symbolized piety, victory and warrior spirit.

Still leaves mystery about the origin of that particular shield.

I would say that without any reference to location data thats pretty impossible to guess.   Maybe if the entire building was on display.

That image is unfortunately stuck on the hard-drive (chip) of my dead laptop
Hoping to have the device to retrieve it, in the post soon.
Meantime, here is  a shot from another source.

You're in the right county, but you need to go further afield.

I have to laugh at myself,  from a simple clue of what are chiefs good at to finding the front of a building from the towns name.      My first thought was the shambles in York but the street view shot doesn't reflect how narrow that is.
