In the state where I live, there used to be a lot of mining. However, the last coal mine closed in 2018. The imported coal is cheaper. Mining is no longer profitable. Many collieries have been demolished, but a few old winding towers have remained standing. Last weekend I went to the old coal mine 'Westfalen' and took some pictures. Here is one that was taken at dawn. A few more photos will come when I'm done with the image processing.

Thank you! I tried around a bit to see which perspectives work well. If you want to have the dawn in the picture, the possibilities are of course somewhat limited. I think this is a pretty good option.

Thank you! There used to be a lot of coal mines and steel mills here in West Germany in the Ruhr area. In general, a lot of heavy industry. It has disappeared, with a few exceptions. There were hundreds of coal mines a few decades ago and the many winding towers dominated the cityscape and landscape. So it's good that some of it is preserved and reminded of the old traditions. But the future looks different. One must never stand still!
