Unfortunately I "lost" some nice shots because I forgot to start video recording. Is there a way to automatically start recording when taking off?

Yes you press the button on the controller............... I dont think that is too difficult

No, not unless youre using an app such as Litchi but thats not possible with the Mini 3 (Pro), its something that many have asked for, for years on here, i have forgotten to record on a few occasions...

the feature is in the dji fpv drone and i leave it on and never worry about recording.  that's what a computer is for.

ALSO DO NOT FORGET TO PRESS STOP BEFORE you switch the drone off.
If you do it will 'corrupt' the recording. The solution to that is to switch the drone on again, let it boot and then switch to off.
I most often remember to press "stop' just as soon as I have released the drone's power button after the long off-press, So I literally switch in on again there and then, after a sear word or two,

No, but what I suggest is make it a point to hit Record as the last thing you do before starting the motors.  My rule is when I'm in the air the recorder is on.  Edit out the fluff in post.

Why create all that dross on the card just to wade through later. Far better to get used to using the drone properly. You have a button or 2 buttons and visual information on the screen to see when you are recording....... How hard can it be.

old habit from car camera:  everything i see is recorded.  what i posted is storage from the day's flight, i don't have to wade thru all those videos.  one big copy paste at the end of day so the only time i'm wasting is the computer's time i guess.

My thoughts:
1. It would be a feature you can turn on/off, hence everybody can adjust it to their personal preferences. No downsides in providing such feature.
2. Even if your habit is to start/stop recording, this feature saves you two clicks.
3. Esepcially the first and the last click, to start recording prior to start and stop recording after landing are the ones most often forgotten.
4. DJI Avata has the feature, Mini 3 Pro does not.

There is an app that can repair those called, mp4repair, i have used it with good success, well, I've used it once and it fixed it, that counts as success lol

I would rather the SD card have files that are not needed than have an SD card with no files and need them, therefore, I support the auto record feature for the umpteenth time.

I just want to make it perfectly clear as it appears to some that us mere mortals don't know what we are doing. We all know its not HARD to use the features and we all know how to use the features PROPERLY, (some members never change *rolls eyes*) its the human factor itself that's the problem, namely the brain, we ALL (no matter how perfect you think you are) forget things throughout our daily lives. Using an RC proficiently comes down to muscle memory and there are those of us that just do not have the time or the inclination to use the RC enough to build up this memory, not to mention that some of us are relatively new to the RC world compared to others, so enough with the holier than thou rubbish already.

I grew to love this settings in Avata.

I wish they can implement the same for Mini 3 Pro.

Many people on here are new and clearly don’t know what they are doing. So your all sweeping statement is incorrect.

How arrogant. Many do want this feature. My recording stopped seconds after take off, and only realized it 20 minutes into the flight.

Not true. There are people who DO want this feature. I think it would be great. One less thing to remember: to start recording. Should be an option.

What happens if you stop recording to take a photo, how will you be able to remember to start recording again?

I agree that this feature would be a great addition.  For those perfect people,  you don't have to turn it on,  but for us mere mortals, it would be a lifesaver.

Yeah! Through this Page I found out my DJI Avata does support automatic Start of Video exactly like my DJI FPV does. The very intelligent answers here to just accept how it is, are Bull....

I am using my DJI FPV since 2 Years nearly nonstop. I am used to NEVER EVER need to press a Button to Record, because the DJI FPV does it automatically.

Now I could switch this on in Settings / Camera / Advanced Settings and I am very happy because now both Drones do exactly the same

Just got a Mini 3 and it’s irritating that it doesn’t have this feature. Lost some great videos on a cruise because it stopped recording 10 seconds after takeoff. Yet this is a standard feature on all Skydio drones. Guess I’ll just have to go back to Skydio so I don’t have to deal with that again

Good luck with Skydio. They don't make consumer drones anymore.
