Hello,

Mavic 2 Pro owner currently based in Australia - hoping to fly in Japan ~March 2023.
I understand the requirements to fly in Japan from July 2022 are:
  • Registration of the drone with MLIT Japan
  • Remote ID <- the part I am unsure about

Is it possible to comply with the drone laws in Japan, or will I be unable to meet the Remote ID requirements without an external module?

Thanks!

Since the M2P is not on the list for compliance, yes.  This one needs the module.

Hi, nithinsudhir. Thanks for reaching out. TonyPHX is right. Currently, the Mavic 2 Pros' firmware is not compliant with Japan's Remote ID requirements. Therefore, an external module will be needed to align with their rules and regulations for flying drones. You may also visit this link for more details. Should you have further concerns, please reach back here at DJI Forum. Have a nice day!

Thanks @DJI Tony - is this something that is possible to be added in a firmware update between now and March? Might have to consider leaving the drone at home if it isn't/can't be added.

The likelihood that they are going to go back and substantially rewrite the firmware to make an older drone like that RID compliant is negligible.  Either get the module, update, or leave the drone at home.  Or enjoy the fact that enforcement of RID is going to be a ridiculous joke.

You're welcome. We have not received such information at the moment. But we will still relay your feedback to our related team for consideration. For any updates, please stay tuned to our official DJI website (www.dji.com). Thank you for your understanding and support.
