An excursion to Barton Grange was to culminate with lunch on a narrowboat sailing on the Lancaster Canal.
An exceptional cold snap meant that the canal was frozen over - to a depth of 2 inches (5cms) in places.
What should have been a smooth drift along the canal admiring the scenery was instead a series of lurches
as the craft struggled to break through the ice and keep course, nudging the bank occasionally.
Fortunately, no wine was spilt and no crockery broken

It's much less cold today, but dull and damp. I have to go now for the shopping trip.
All the best to you and yours for the festivities.
Great job on this video Mr. B. At about 1:07 I started feeling really cold seeing all that ice. It was really cool to seeing the living roof on that store.

Thanks RDB. It was a finger-nipping day for sure. Barton Grange is a huge garden centre and farmers' market. I believe they were responsible for the grass roof on that building.

You're very welcome Mr. B. I saw on the news about the frigid temps they are reporting in the UK. I applaud Barton Grange then for the living roof. We need to see more of those to help out the environment.

There are others around the UK, but that's the only one I've seen personally.

A few days later, another group of kids were spotted on ice elsewhere. They got off with a lecture about personal safety I believe.
