I'm planning a visit to Brugge in September, about 3 days' stay. Are there things you think I absolutely must visit/see?

Definitely the market square. In winter they used to install a skating rink - not sure if they still do. But for sure it won't be there in September
The belfry tower at the head of the square (83 metres high) dominates the area, and for a small fee you can climb to the top - lots of steps!   It figured prominently in a film called IN BRUGES, a Tragi-comedy which I enjoyed.
From the square there are conducted tours in horse-drawn open-top carriages along the cobbled streets.
And you can take water-borne tours along the city's canals.
Moules-Frites and a pint of Leffe Triple at lunchtime will set you up for the afternoon, and the chocolatiers are a must visit.   I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Did you climb the Belfry tower in the Market Square?  Amazing views from up there. It was BDE for me (Before Drone Era)

No, I didn't. Hardly did anything in Belgium - misplanned it a bit so we had for NL and B almost no time.

- You can visit the De Halve Maan, it's a nice place where you can drink your beer or watch the process of making beer.
-  You can visit the minnewater park, where you can see lot of  swans!!!
-  You can visit Church of our lady.
-  You can visit Burg square and  Basilica of the Holy Blood.
-  You can visit Market Square, Belfort and Historium.
-  You can go to see windmills
-  You can see canals with a boat
-  And of course to drink a beer to the Beer Wall, where you can find 1.200 labels of beers and a big wall beer!!!
- And finally to taste chocolate!!!  

All the wonderful places you guys have visited :-) Seem to have so many sights to behold...

I especially liked the windmill pictures!
