I've had the slow SD card write speed error since buying the Avata in September. I've tried multiple new SD cards from Samsung to SanDisk.
I've noticed that once the error displays, the recording time clock freezes even if I stop recording. It will stay frozen on whatever time for about 3-5 minutes where it will reset back to 0. After that, it will record fine everytime.

Any ideas? I'm thinking this is more than a SD card issue.

I've used SanDisk Ultra but not extreme. I'll give that a shot.

I feel like there's more to it than a SD issue.. Maybe hardware. The way the recording timer freezes and stays frozen seems abnormal.

The V30 and V90 designations are crucial. IME anything less than a V30 (30MB/s) and your DJI drone is likely to give you an error, even though that's faster than what you should theoretically need for 4k video. V90 is way more than you need, so I would just buy only V30 cards to ensure you don't run into problems.

I got the SanDisk Extreme U3 V30 A2 128GB microSDXC, which is sold by Adorama and others with the Avata kit and has been recommended by DJI. . . and this card is way too slow.
I had always a jumpy video and frozen sections when I play it. Plus the warning in the goggles.
Now I got the SanDisk Extreme Pro U3 V30 A2 256 GB and it works fine.
No jumps and no "slow SD" message in the goggles.

Have to take my above statement back
Despite the Sandisk Extreme Pro card, there are still some jumps or frames missing every minute or so.
I have the camera set to 4K-30 . . . and I don't have a slow SD card warning in the goggles.
Any suggestions what else I can do?

I purchased a recommended card and will try it ASAP.
Do the issues I mentioned seem normal?

Sometimes it will record perfectly, other times I ge the warning and the record time will freeze for about 3 min then record just fine.

I plan to. I was asking if the issue I'm having is to be expected from using the "wrong" card.

There might be a possibility that the issue would be the SD card that you are using, we can check it by using a compatible SD card. Please keep us posted. Thank you.

Question - I have not purcashed an SD card yet - jammed in one I had in stock. But do you have to remove that thing every time to download the 4K Video? That is such work on this drone I am hopeful there is a better way to D/L that video over removing that card each time.

Connect a USB-C in to the port next to the SD card and run the USB to whatever device you'd like to download footage to. No need to remove SD card.

Well, that is the same pain in the butt, sorry.
You have to bend the prop blades away to make room the the USB-C plug.
The placement of the USB card slot and the adjacent USB port is just not acceptable.
That is a very poor design . . .

Yeah, that was a hot topic when the drone first released.
You shouldn't have to bend the props though. You can get a smaller USB-C plug or a 90* plug.

Has anyone used the Samsung PRO Plus U3 V30 A2 256GB microSDXC cards?  They are available at my local Best Buy and was thinking of getting a couple since the Sandisk Extreme Pro cards are not available.  I do find the Sandisk Extreme Plus.  Are those the same as the Pro?

Ops, that is very slow one . . .
This is an A1 card. We need at least A2 to get a smooth write and read.

This is the exact one in the list recommended by DJI. Seems to working well.

@Jo060
You got me thinking. How can I check my SD cards?
Well, suddenly I remembered my good, old Blackmagic disk speed tester.
WoW,  . . .
In my Avata and the goggles 2 I had a Sandisk Extreme and that produced stuttering videos and I got the "slow disk" message in the goggles.
I exchanged both with the Sandisk Extreme Pro and got a huge improvement. And now I know why . . .
The original Sandisk extreme SD cards have been from Adorama a while ago. They are slow like hell.
I get a write speed of 11 and a read speed of 16.
The new Sandisk Extreme Pro I got recently have a write speed of 81 and a read of 90.
Big difference.
First I thought the difference stems from the fact that the newer one is a Pro, but that turned out not to be true.
They are just fake!!!!
I still have an old Extreme. Looks exactly like the fake and it has also a write of 80 and a read of 90

I ordered a couple of these:  SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB Micro SDXC UHS-I U3 A2 V30 170MB/s from Amazon.

Those are the ones I am using right now.
They are claiming 170 mb/sec but the overall read/write is about 80/90, which is ok and works.
When we look at the above speed test we can see on the right side the speed at various resolutions.
